Heating and Air Conditioning Repair in Calhoun, GA

Calhoun is the Gordon County seat, set along the Oostanaula River in northwest Georgia, with I-75 running along the east side of town. Two local details shape HVAC work here. First, who supplies your electricity depends on where you live: the City of Calhoun runs its own electric system through Calhoun Utilities, and Gordon County’s building department also lists Georgia Power, North Georgia EMC and Amicalola EMC as electric providers in the county. That matters when a heat pump or new outdoor unit needs electrical work, because the utility side is handled by whichever provider serves your address.

Second, the permit office depends on the address. Homes inside Calhoun city limits are permitted by the City of Calhoun, while unincorporated Gordon County, along with the towns of Plainville, Ranger and Resaca, is handled by Gordon County Community Development. We sort that out for you on every replacement.

Calhoun Furnace and Heat Pump Repair

Most of the calls we get from Calhoun this time of year are about heat. Before you call, a few safe checks can save time:

  • Thermostat: set to Heat, set point above room temperature, batteries good if it uses them.
  • Filter: a clogged filter can make a furnace overheat and shut itself off, then restart a few minutes later. That on-off pattern is called short cycling; our guide to furnace and AC short cycling explains the common causes.
  • Power: check the breaker and the service switch near the furnace or air handler. If a breaker trips again after one reset, leave it off.
  • Heat pump frost: a light coat of frost in cold weather is normal, and the unit should clear it in a defrost cycle. A thick block of ice that doesn’t clear is not normal.

If you smell gas, leave the house and call your gas provider or 911 from outside before you call us. For everything else, we offer 24/7 emergency service at (470) 360-8887.

Repair visits: our service fee is $125, and it’s credited toward the repair when you go ahead with the repair or a new system. Comfort Club members don’t pay service fees. Our standard is 24-hour turnaround: from your call to your system running again, for most repairs.

When It’s Time to Replace: How We Install in Calhoun

If repairs no longer make sense, we’ll show you why and price the options. Not sure yet? See repair or replace your HVAC system: 5 things to check. Every Calhoun replacement follows the Comfort Medics Installation Standard, as applicable to the equipment and project:

  • Electrical first on heat pumps and new outdoor units: supply voltage, amp draws and control-board settings verified, whoever your electric provider is.
  • Refrigerant commissioning: nitrogen flowing while brazing, pressure test, deep vacuum, and charge verified by superheat and subcooling, with the TXV evaluated where the equipment supports it.
  • Gas furnaces: gas pressure, temperature rise, and flue sizing and venting.
  • Airflow and drainage: ductwork evaluated, static pressure measured, blower set to suit, condensate drainage confirmed.

Details on each check are on our HVAC replacement and installation page.

Starting prices, as of November 2026: air conditioner replacement starts at $5,000, furnace replacement at $4,000, evaporator coil replacement at $2,000, a heat pump outdoor unit (air handler not included) at $2,000, and a complete system at $7,000. Your final price depends on your home’s size, ductwork, equipment efficiency and the options you choose, and we quote it after a free in-home estimate. Already have a replacement quote? A second opinion before you decide is free. See the full ranges in our HVAC replacement cost guide.

Permits: City of Calhoun or Gordon County

We pull the permit on every replacement. Inside city limits, the City of Calhoun’s Department of Building Inspection issues it, and the city asks contractors to include a copy of their contractor’s license and a current Georgia business license with the application. Outside the city, Gordon County Community Development issues permits for unincorporated Gordon County and for Plainville, Ranger and Resaca. The county runs applications through an online portal with a plan review before work starts, then schedules inspections. Either way, it’s handled before your new system goes in.

Warranty and Financing on a New System

On a new Calhoun system you get three layers of coverage: a 10-year manufacturer parts warranty on qualifying equipment (registration may be required), a 10-year labor warranty from Comfort Medics, and our lifetime craftsmanship guarantee. Optional third-party extended coverage, such as JB Warranties, is available too. Financing is available through FTL Finance and other lenders, for repairs and new systems (subject to credit approval); see our financing page.

Calhoun HVAC Questions

Do you serve homes outside Calhoun city limits?

Yes. We serve all of Gordon County. Outside the city, the permit comes from Gordon County Community Development instead of the City of Calhoun, and that office also covers Plainville, Ranger and Resaca.

Does my electric provider matter for a heat pump?

It can. A new heat pump or outdoor unit may need electrical work, and the utility side is handled by whoever serves your address, which in the Calhoun area may be Calhoun Utilities, Georgia Power or an EMC. We check the electrical requirements of the new equipment at the estimate.

My furnace turns on and off every few minutes. Is that serious?

It should be checked. Start with the filter. If a clean filter doesn’t stop it, the cause may be airflow, a flame sensor, venting or an oversized furnace, and some of those are safety shutdowns.

Can you come out at night or on a weekend?

Yes. We offer 24/7 emergency service. Call (470) 360-8887.
